How to Dance at a Wedding | 4 Quick Tips

Wedding season is here! Whether you are the bride/groom or attending a wedding as a guest, you don't want to look like a fool on the dance floor. If you don't know how to dance at a wedding and don't have time to take dance lessons beforehand, learn these 4 things now so that you can have fun dancing at the next wedding!

1. Hold your Partner in a Dance Position

Leader, place your right hand behind your partner's left shoulder blade (cupping the shoulder blade). Make sure your right elbow is up and your elbow bone should be pointing out to your right side. Follower, wrap your left arm around your partner’s lifted arm and place your hand around his/her biceps. Both of you can now bring the other arm up and clasp your hands together. Your elbows should be relaxed and pointing down slightly.

2. The Basic Step

This basic step is one of the most versatile dance steps since you can dance it to almost any song at a wedding! Watch this video as I demonstrate how to do a simple box step.

3. Simple Right Turn

Once you know how to do the basic, you can spice up your dancing with a spin! Check out this video that shows you how to do a simple right turn.

4. Simple Dip

Leader, bring your partner close to you by placing your arms around his/her waist. Bring your partner with you and take a wide step to your left and get into a lounge. Follower, take a wide step to your right with your partner. Keep your weight on your right foot and rotate your body counterclockwise so that you are perpendicular to your partner's left side. Now, bend your right knee, extend your left leg in front of your body and point your foot. Leader, you should be supporting your partner with your arms. Make sure you keep your partner close to you as if you are hugging him/her. Do NOT lean towards your partner. You need to counterbalance him/her by keeping your body upright.
